Paula Meehan is one of Ireland’s foremost living poets and it is a rare treat indeed to welcome her to Enniskerry Village for this special reading. She was once quoted as saying “I believe that two lines of poetry can save a life” and when you witness her charismatic and compelling readings, you will believe it. Not best known as a nature poet, nature nevertheless inspires, enlivens and informs Meehan’s work - strikingly so in her latest collection The Solace of Artemis from which she will be reading.
“Her poems situate us in the mixed urban and natural world every Irish reader knows”
John McAuliffe, The Irish Times
In a pairing that goes back centuries to the Bardic era in Ireland, Paula Meehan’s reading will be accompanied by music from the internationally renowned, Wicklow based harpist Aisling Ennis. A magical and evocative evening from two consummate artists.
“Aisling’s ability to create a mood, to paint a musical picture, is extremely natural; her arrangements of known Irish airs also organic, her musical and poetical rhythm is sublime.”
